A Member of Rotaract Club of NUM & Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar Visits Two Clubs in a Row
It has been a while since I have spoken at a Rotary Club. I guess it was because there were holidays like, Christmas and New Year etc.
One thing that I find most of the time is that most of Americans or western world thinks that Mongolians are Chinese -- hehe which sort of makes all Mongolians uncomfortable. So, as an Ambassadorial Scholar, whose mission is to create cultural understanding and world peace, I tell them the real story - that we cannot use chopsticks and our nomadic lifestyle is very unique comparing to other Asian countries. We are different in a way that any other Asian country pursued. Again I still could be wrong - I am saying this based on my knowledge that I acquired from readings and researches. All those history books are perceptions of a person like us who’s from our generation. So we never know...
Anyways, the first club that I visited was called Rotary Club of Ballston Spa. It's located about half an hour north from where I live. They meet in former factory building that's called A Factory. And in their meeting room they have Michael Corleone's (The Godfather) portraits all over (refer the photos). Everybody was quite pleased with the presentation and now they have learned that Mongolians are not Chinese and it's Chinggis Khaan, not Genghis Khan.
The second club was morning breakfast club called Rotary Club of Mechanicville in town of Mechanicville, NY. They meet at 7:45am every Wednesday - wow that was NOT easy at all! The DG Bill Nathan picked me up from my house. We left at 6:45am from Albany, NY - very early!
It was relatively small club compared to other clubs that I have visited, I have presented directly from my laptop screen - which was even better. It was almost like a small round table discussion.
I have done four clubs speech so far now I am getting ready for the next one this Thursday. I do hope that you will enjoy the photos, but there is more coming, stay tuned...
Miss you guys, yours in Rotaract!

Rotaractor Batuka spoke at Rotary Club of Albany
Last Wednesday (November 16, 2011) afternoon I have joined my host club in Albany, NY to speak about "the typical topic," Mongolia and Proposed Plan for Ulaanbaatar as a Planner.
When I showed the contrast of summer (very nice shots from Zaisan at night, with different colored lights etc.) and winter pictures (smoggy and cold) of Ulaanbaatar, it striked everybody. Summer pictures allow me tell them the joke that Mongolians don't ride horse to work in Ulaanbaatar. People love this joke and go hysterical. For some reason, most people still think we are brutal barbarians who rides horse everywhere and these images allow them to see how it is in reality and We, Mongolians are just like them - regular people.
I also showed them the One Day on Earth video called "Уяхан Замбуу Тивийн Наран" that Rotarian Tomothy and myself did, which you can see here.
Everybody enjoyed the presentation. I will be visiting more clubs in Maine, Connecticut, Vermont and Massachusetts in the near future, so stay tuned.
Cheers,
Batuka
Book Donation Event 2011

Rotaract club of National University of Mongolia had successfully organized “Book Donation Event” for Child Labor Education Training Center which has children aged between 6-18 years old and is the largest orphanage center in Ulaanbaatar city on October 15th, 2011. We have collected around 400 books and magazines with variety of choices to read such as educational, foreign language and novels in Mongolian, English, Korean, Japanese and Russian.
We have delivered toys and stuffed animals to the children which came all the way from Mongolians Union in Europe, France.
It was great to see all of the children were happy to receiving the books and toys. When we just gave all the books, children started opening books from the boxes and said cannot wait to read them. We have spent some time in the library together talking about books we brought and what kind of books they like to read. We were so blessed to be under the one roof with those cute children even for a while and more than happy to see the smile on their face.
We looked around the children’s room and sport hall to see how they live their everyday life. And exactly a year ago, we donated industrial washing machine which was the most needed equipment to this orphanage with a help of Lek en Linge high school from Holland. It was working just fine and the teacher said they are very happy with this washing machine. Once again, we are very thankful to Lek en Linge high school to made that happen.
While we were looking inside the rooms, we did not see any chairs and tables. Because of the library was small we wondered and asked about where and how children study. Obviously, they have not enough resource to study and some of the children study in the library and some just study on their beds. And we thought to ourselves, we just gave them books to help them to study better, but without something to sit and write on it how they are going to study better. Our next mission is to find them a chairs and tables to study and we hope you would help us to accomplish this just like you did on Book Donation Event.
Finally, we would like to say thank you so much for people who helped us to collect 400 books. We were actually amazed that we have collected 400 books, because of the announcement released only a week ago through social media like twitter and facebook. It was a great motivation for us to do more and looking forward to work with you in the future projects.
Sincerely,
Rotaract club of National University of Mongolia.
Looking for miracle
Holland school “Lek en Linge” delegate Mark together with Rotaract club of National University of Mongolia members joint meeting with parents and children of Down Syndrome Association of Mongolia was held on September 24, 2011 at the “Zorig” foundation. And we evaluated last year project, furthermore; discussed about its further work.
During this event, Rotary International District, Rotaract 3450, 2010-2011 DRR Anita Chang gave their hand-made key holders with children’s favorite sweet-stuffs to children. Rest of gifts handed to Executive director Ariunaa to be delivered to rest of children whom couldn’t come this time. We would like to thank to our Hong Kong friends who made these gifts and delivered to us.
Our sponsors were really delightful by hearing “Live with Miracle” project implemented well and received District Outstanding Project award.
Moreover; they promised to work further projects as well and asked parents to write down their requests and new ideas. Its translation would be delivered to sponsor.
